Make Date #1: Planter Boxes at Gamla

What better way to get our 'Make Date' experiment off the ground then to start from the start, at home with a project at Gamla studio involving us.

Make Date

Located in the neighbourhood of Hastings Sunrise (or East Village) and home to Gamla Studio, Wall Street is one of the most interesting and diverse streets in Vancouver. Full of potential, this neighbourhood – and more specifically this street – is the reason we decided to set up shop here in the first place.

We’d already done a gut job on the interior of our space since moving in last October, but the exterior was still looking a bit sad. So, we decided that a simple solution would be to brighten up our, and our neighbour’s, concrete on concrete on concrete view with a couple of straightforward cedar planter boxes filled with tasty vegetables and happy flowers.

A GOOD SIGN: As we were planting, passersby stopped to chat with us, complimenting the planters and commenting on how nice they are to look at. Our neighbours even let us know that our planters had inspired to do the same to their building, and a few days later they were installing a large planter box of their own.
